I fall into the entirely different catagory of Synastry analysis. I am more of a Sidereal Vedic Astrologer. The systems used for compability with it simply make sense. One of the issues I had with Western Tropical astrology was websites would put great scores to my relationships. Yet they never seemed to work in actuality. To many complex factors go into western synastry as you mentioned. Vedic Sidereal simplifies it.
When your talking about the 7th house for compatibility, it’s important to realize the 7th house is not actually how your spouse acts. Fundamentally, the 7th house is your attitude, approach, and expectations of a marriage. In reality, the nature of the partner is often entirely different. The partner often has their own mix of planets, aspects, and traits different from how your 7th house portrays.
With a little reading, I will explain the three main systems I learned and use.
You need to use the sidereal zodiac position of planets for these systems to work. I am presuming you (and most of my followers) are into western Astrology. No worries I got you covered.
Calculate your sidereal zodiac placements simply in one of two ways.

- If your on PC go download Jagannatha Hora by clicking here. It goes right to the file to download, in zip format. Full atlas for accurate birth chart casting.
Now I will explain the three systems I learned and use:
Relationship Distance Matching.
Relationship distance matching is the study of compatibility measured by the distance between two planets.
Planets are measured in “spaces from each other.” The total distance measured is calculated by how many signs one must travel from your planet in a sign to arrive at the partner’s same planet in their sign.
The first sign is always counted as the “1.” Then your count the number of houses from your planet until you arrive at their planet.
This technique is done through using Moon and Venus. Moon for similar thinking, receptivity and desires for comfort; while Venus for similar affection styles.
Moon or Venus must be closer to the partners Moon/Venus for optimum compatibility relationship.
The closer moons are together the more compatible the thinking, receptivity and desires are together. The closer Venus’ are to one another the points to a compatible affectionate and sexual nature. The Passion together is stronger.
Essentially this is a study of how quickly one planet can reach the partner’s similar planet. The shorter it takes the better. The longer it takes to reach the partners similar planet the more hardship it causes feeling good together.
Always count the planet in the 1st sign as “1”; Count the total houses apart, then refer to the score table below the following examples:
Moon Distance Matching Example
Partner 1 has moon in Capricorn. Partner 2 has moon in Taurus.
Capricorn moon starts the distance count at “1.” Aquarius is 2. Pisces is 3 places, Aries 4, arriving at Taurus becomes 5 total places.
Taurus Moon is 5 spaces away from Capricorn Moon. According to the scoring table, this is good for Compatibility for Moon.
Venus Distance Matching Example
Partner 1 has Venus in Gemini. Partner 2 has Venus in Pisces.
Venus in Gemini starts the distance count at “1”. Cancer is 2, Leo is 3, Virgo is 4, Libra is 5, Scorpio is 6, Sagittarius is 7, Capricorn is 8, Aquarius is 9, Pisces is 10.
This combination is 10 signs apart. This is rated below as poor and unfavorable for relationships.
How do scores ultimately rate? Check the table below
The rating scale:
1-3 houses apart : Excellent compatibility by distance
4-5 houses apart: Good still but not as great.
6-7 houses apart: Average. Some conflict but solvable with willingness to work.
8-12 houses apart: Poor. The distance is to great causing issues relating.
Moon Nakshatra Compatibility.
In the Vedic Sidereal Zodiac, there was 27 constellations residing above the Zodiac Signs we all know in the west. These constellations are known as Nakshatras. Nakshatras are basically like Zodiac signs we all know in the west, and even share similarities in how they work. Each Nakshatra has traits and features that shape the personality. Each Nakshatra has a ruling planet just like zodiac sign. The Moon is the most important planet to study with Nakshatras because Moon is the mind, basic receptivity, and desires to feel complete and whole.
Since Nakshatras are major contributors to a personality, they play tremendous factors into relationship compatibility. There are quite a few steps to show how this works. I will first help people who know their western zodiac moon sign and degree find the Nakshatra of their moon.
Below is a table that converts the degree of your western zodiac planet degree and coverts it over to the appropriate Nakshatra listed on the right. For basic fundamental explanation, the western and sidereal zodiacs are close to 24 degrees apart and converted as much here:

Finding Compatibility of Moon Nakshatras Through Planetary War Concept
Now that we have the background work done, we take the planets that rule Nakshatra’s to the next level. You judge the planet’s against one another and find where their relationship stands in the planetary war concept. What is planetary war? Simply, every planet is a friend, neutral or enemy to every other planet in Astrology. It’s that simple, and plays out equally so.
Planets that are friends are in a good mood together. Just like if your spend time with a friend and it puts you in a great mood. Having two planets that are friends which rule both individuals Moon Nakshatra’s is great for compatibilities. It means the the higher thinking functions of the mind, the receptivity to one another, and desires to feel whole and complete are in agreement. The compatibility works and the partners feel comfortable. The intimacy is there, everything is great.
Planets that are neutral to one another act accordingly. When the planets ruling the Moon Nakshatra’s are neutral, it means the compatibility is average. Not great, but not bad either. This would indicate there can be a lack of emotional intimacy. On the flip side, you don’t get the conflicts of planets in a bad moon together. Often you will have to look at many other factors to determine is the pairing between people can work.
Planets that are enemy to each other in planetary war are bad news for relationship compatibility. The minds don’t think the same. The thinking of each partner can irritate the other. There can be fights, lack of emotional intimacy, problems with feeling “whole” together. This is generally bad news for a relationship, and best be avoided. Without Moon compatibility there is no feeling of safety, and the relationships just tend to die out fast on their own anyway.
Now for the table of friend, neutral and enemy planets. Just choose your planet and match it to the right with the partners planet. Look at all three tables until you find the friend/neutral/enemy status of both ruling planets of you/partners Moon Nakshatras.

Jaimini Astrology Planetary Karaka
Jaimini Astrology is a form of the Vedic Sidereal Zodiac where the planets are karakas (producers) of certain people and themes in your life. These karakas are ranked in descendant order starting with the planet of the highest degree in your chart, all way to the lowest. Each of the planets are then set in a certain order, and then assigned a certain “karaka” status depending on the order of listed degrees.
To make this simple, I will cut all the riff raff. When your looking for your spouse through Jaimini, you find the planet with the lowest degree (closest to zero) in your sidereal birth chart. This planet is called the “Dara-Karaka” or also translates to “The heart” for dara “and producer” for Karaka. Together darakaraka in Sanskrit translates to the heart producer, or a rough translation for someone you fall in love with and marry.
The Darakaraka can only be the original 7 planets. The nature of the planet that is darakaraka shows something significant about the spouse you marry. Many times you still see the partner’s Atmakaraka (planet of highest degree, Soul producer) is your darakaraka. Not always though.
Sun as Darakaka: Spouse likely has high status in society. Individualistic, well educated, a defined leader Charismatic. Full of full and vigorous. Fun to be with.
Moon as Dakaraka: Partner is very emotional. Likely they are very feminine in their expression. A nurturer and protector. They love family. A supporter. Adapt to partners needs.

Venus as Darakaraka: Spouse is Passionate. Relationship oriented. Diplomatic and a peace keeper. Very romantic and sensual. Sexual. Lives through the senses. Materialistic likely. Big into socializing.
Mars as Darakaraka: Partner is straight forward. Logical. Takes problems head on. Ambitious. Has strong opinions. Goal Oriented. Has lots of energy. A fighter. Fights to survive. Athletic. Into real estate and land.
Jupiter as Darakaraka: The partner has a very expansive personality. Philosophical. Religious. Spiritual. Driven by morals and beliefs. Well educated. Full of Wisdom. Broad minded, interested in travel, and loves freedom.
Saturn as Darakaraka: Spouse is very down to earth and practical. Likely very mature. Always investing their time building sometimes. Working towards financial longevity. In everything for the long haul.
